Gene T. Pretti   
Chief Executive Officer
Senior Portfolio Manager
Gene earned his MBA from the University of Wisconsin where he was selected for the Applied Security Analysis Program, an honors program emphasizing Security Analysis and Portfolio Management. Prior to acquiring Zazove Associates in 1989, Gene worked for First Boston Corporation where he specialized in institutional equity sales.  He also has served as an analyst with CUNA Mutual Insurance Co. and Robert W. Baird & Co.
Steven M. Kleiman
Chief Operating Officer
General Counsel
  Steve earned his JD from the UCLA School of Law where he graduated with highest honors. He received certification as a CPA in 1983. Prior to joining Zazove Associates in 1994, Steve was a Partner with the international law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery. Steve practiced law with the Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom prior to becoming a member of McDermott, Will & Emery.
Mark Ludviksen, CFA
Chief Information Officer
  Mark earned his MBA in Finance and Economics at the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business, where he graduated with honors.  Prior to joining the firm in 1992, Mark  was with the investment firm of Noddings & Associates,Inc.  Mark applies his quantitative skills to the ongoing development of our security and portfolio analysis tools.
Christopher B. Cook, CFA
Portfolio Manager & Director, High Yield Research
  Chris earned his MBA from Northwestern University with concentrations in finance and accounting and graduated with honors. He received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University.  Prior to joining Zazove Associates in 2000, Chris spent 13 years working in the institutional equity department of Credit Suisse First Boston, most recently as West Coast Equity Product Manager.
Christopher B. Sewell
Portfolio Manager, Trader
Chris earned his BS from Plymouth State University with concentrations in Finance and Economics and graduated with honors. Before joining Zazove in 2004, Chris was recruited to build and manage the convertible securities sales and trading group for Bank One Capital Markets. Chris has over 15 years experience as a convertible trader, more recently with Deutsche Bank Securities where he co-managed a multi-billion dollar portfolio of convertible securities.
Gregory D Shorin, JD, CFA
Portfolio Manager
Director of Trade Operations
International Research

Greg earned his JD from the Georgetown University Law Center and his BA in Economics and Political Science from State University of New York.  Prior to joining the firm in 1997, Greg was a senior associate with the law firm of Baker & Botts where he specialized in international trade matters.  He also served as Senior Counsel for Import Administration, where he analyzed international trade issues and represented the Commerce Department in international trade negotiations.

Justin Lu, JD, CFA

High Yield Analyst

  Justin earned his JD/MBA from Columbia Law School/Columbia Business School where he graduated with honors.  He received a BA in Economics and Mathematics from Dartmouth College.  Prior to joining the firm in 2002, Justin worked for Merrill Lynch in both the global leveraged finance and technology investment banking groups.

Daniel Osorio, CFA
Senior Trader

  Dan earned his BS in Economics with an emphasis in Mathematics from the University of Oregon. Prior to joining the firm in 2000, Dan was an options market maker for Timber Hill on the floor of the Pacific Exchange. Dan trades for the Investment Grade, Aggressive Growth, and High Yield Programs.
Gary Hosking
Director of Client Services
  Gary earned his BA in Economics from DePauw University where he graduated with honors.  Prior to joining the firm in 1996, Gary was with The Northern Trust where he marketed estate planning and investment management services. He also worked at Lehman Brothers, where he managed the capital markets’ origination effort in a seven-state Midwestern territory.  
Dr. Earl Zazove
Founder
  Earl is an internationally recognized expert in convertible securities. He founded the firm in 1971 and developed the proprietary Zazove Convertible Strategy. Earl remains active in assessing the Zazove strategies and in conducting presentations to various organizations interested in alternative investment strategies.
